The Sustainable Horizons Institute and the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics will present the 2017 Computational Science and Engineering conference this February in Atlanta. The conference enables in-depth technical discussions on a wide variety of major computational efforts on large-scale problems in science and engineering and promotes the training of the next generation of computational scientists. Through the Broader Engagement Program, the organization offers opportunities for college students to participate in the conference. Laura will receive full funding for travel, lodging and conference registration expenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The following is a description from the Sustainable Horizon\u2019s website:<\/p>\n<p>The goals of the SIAM CSE17 BE program are to bring students to the conference, engage them in conference activities and the computational science and engineering (CSE) community, and provide special programming to enhance their experience as well as impact their career trajectory.<\/p>\n<p>BE participants are recruited from groups underrepresented in CSE, such as women, minorities, people with disabilities, first generation scholars, and people from under-privileged backgrounds. For many participants, SIAM CSE17 will be their first experience at a scientific conference. Many will be undergraduate students from minority serving institutions, women\u2019s and community colleges, or small liberal arts colleges. For some, attending SIAM CSE17 will have a dramatic impact on their future.<\/p>\n<p>Participants are provided with travel support to attend the full technical program at SIAM CSE17. In addition, a variety of special activities will be organized through the BE program including:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 High Performance Computing Workshop (HPC) Workshop<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Mentor-Prot\u00e9g\u00e9 program \u2022 Keynote Workshop on STEAM (STEM+Art)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Professional and Leadership Development activities<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Opportunity to present research<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Guided Affinity Groups to increase learning<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Community activities<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laura Nivens has been selected to participate in a national science and engineering conference.
