Department of Nursing Education<\/h2>\n

The Department of Nursing Education offers a Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing degree upon successful completion of its four-year professional nursing program. The graduate of this program is eligible to take the licensure examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a registered nurse. The Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing degree is considered the entry level for professional nursing and serves as a foundation for career development and for graduate education in nursing.<\/p>\n

Practical Experience<\/h4>\n

Students gain hands-on experience in a wide variety of clinical practice sites, such as Salina Regional Health Center, Presbyterian Manor, medical offices, and throughout the school districts.<\/p>\n

Scholarships and Employment<\/h4>\n

The Salina community and surrounding areas continue to benefit from an agreement between KWU and Salina Regional Health Center that was developed to expand opportunities for KWU student nurses by providing additional financial support for their education and then employ many of our graduates once they receive their Registered Nurse license.<\/p>\n

Community Support<\/h4>\n

Salina Regional Health Foundation has given its vote of confidence in the KWU Nursing degree by providing a $1,000,000 gift to the Kansas Wesleyan University Foundation to establish the Salina Regional Health Center Chair in Nursing Education.<\/p>\n

Nursing Success Coordinator<\/h4>\n

As Kansas Wesleyan’s Nursing Success Coordinator, Jerri Zweygardt, M.S.N., R.N., offers support to nursing faculty by providing the tools and techniques to enhance courses. She focuses on improving student success by working with the faculty to build an exceptional and exemplary nursing curriculum.<\/p>\n

The Kansas Wesleyan University Nursing Education Center opened for classes Jan. 12, 2021 and was formally dedicated in a virtual ceremony Feb. 19 of that year. The building \u2014 KWU\u2019s first new, on-campus facility dedicated entirely to academics in more than 50 years \u2014 was the culmination of a true community effort. Salina Regional Health Center and its foundation provided the initial impetus for the project by gifting both the building itself and a financial element. Many others invested in the future of Nursing Education in central Kansas by supporting this project.<\/p>\n
